Six-Week Alcohol Education Program | Columbia Treatment Center
Helping You Understand Alcohol, Behavior, and the Law in Maryland
What Is an Alcohol Education Program?
If you’ve been charged with a DUI or DWI in Maryland, one of the first steps your attorney may suggest is enrolling in an alcohol education program. These programs are often recommended—and sometimes required—even when a Probation Before Judgment (PBJ) is granted. But what exactly does this involve?
An alcohol education program is a structured course designed to help individuals:
- Understand alcohol consumption and Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)
- Learn how alcohol affects judgment and decision-making
- Recognize the legal implications of alcohol-related offenses
What to Expect from the Six-Week Education Program
At Columbia Treatment Center, we offer a twelve-hour alcohol education course delivered over six weeks. Each session runs for two hours and is conducted virtually, allowing participants to attend from the comfort of home. Classes are led by licensed clinicians with extensive experience in behavioral health.
Throughout the program, participants will explore:
- The physical effects of overconsumption of alcohol and other substances on the body
- Maryland state laws and Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) regulations
- The meaning of BAC and its legal and health implications
- An overview of Substance Use Disorder and recognizing unhealthy patterns
- The role of family dynamics in behavior and consequences
- Available treatment and support options for making positive choices
- Skills for managing emotions, stress, and anger
Why Is This Program Important?
Beyond fulfilling court or legal obligations, this program delivers essential life skills. Many past participants leave the course saying, “I wish they taught this in high school!”
It’s an opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow in a supportive environment while staying compliant with legal expectations.
