Two Ways for Drivers to Get Their Return-To-Duty Test
According to 49 CFR 382.705(b)(1)(ii): There are two ways drivers can get their Return-to-Duty (RTD) test once they have completed with their SAP.
- The new or existing employer will order the RTD test.
- The driver can enroll in a Consortium/Third Party Administrator (C/TPA) as an
Owner/Operator, even if they do not own a truck or have a DOT Number.
“Prohibited,” meaning they cannot drive.
Once the RTD test is negative, the C/TPA, or the DER if going through an employer, will
record the negative test result on the driver’s Clearinghouse dashboard, and the driver’s
dashboard will immediately show “Not Prohibited,” meaning they can drive.
